Abstract:

Appliance energy efficiency regulations are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while saving households money.
In June 2016 the Commonwealth Government of Australia released, through the COAG Energy Council, a prioritised work program, aimed at accelerating those regulations so as to deliver the maximum benefit to consumers. These regulations are on track to deliver significant savings, with current regulation impact statements estimating net benefits of over $5 billion by 2030.
The Department of the Environment and Energy continues to identify opportunities to improve existing regulations and look for new opportunities.
This presentation will briefly cover some of the recent work the department has done
  • to review the impact of existing regulations
  • on progressing the priority products
  • on looking for new opportunities.
