Abstract:

This paper conducts a simulation study on an innovative façade ventilated with indoor exhaust air. A numerical model of the basic ventilated façade module was developed with experimental validation. The study investigated the energy saving of the ventilated façade in heating and cooling seasons. The effects of the façade material thermal properties and distribution, the impacts of the cavity air flow rate were also studied. The results proved the ventilated façade has excellent energy saving potential in comparison with the façade with its cavity closed. The proper design of the façade constitution and the cavity air flow rate were also provided.
