Abstract:

One of the fundamental elements of energy efficient buildings is a high-performance envelope. But designing and building one are two different things. Insulation and air barriers must be installed correctly, and quality control can be a major weak point. Probably the most basic tool of building science is the Blower Door. You use it for a pressure-test of the building envelope to measure how leaky it is. You want to make sure that you have control over when, where, and how much air moves in and out of your building. It’s such a basic concept that many parts of the world have had testing in their building codes for years – and Australia may be next. Get out ahead of this and be a leader by learning about building airtight envelopes that are healthy and energy efficient.
